I think it still is a great family vacation and nowhere as expensive as going to Florida. I like the Dayton House Resort to stay at. It is very, very, very clean and the staff is soooo nice. It is reasonable and in a good area.
I don't golf either but we have a blast on the inventive mini golf courses that they have there. They are so much fun.
There is great dining and shopping.
I would recommend avoiding the pizza buffets, they are all terrible. And the best seafood "calabash" is Original Benjamin's-the one in North Myrtle Beach.
www.myrtlebeachlive.com should offer a free planner, which is a really nice book filled with info on the lodging and other stuff.
References :
I go every spring and love it so much I want to move there!

myrtle beach is a blast. you and the girls will have so much to do . there is broadway at the beach, and also barefoot landing. they have fun stores, and plenty to look at. don't forget to stop at Jimmy Buffet's Margarettaville restaurant, that is fun for all ages! also, barefoot landing, is a bit more low key, but is also family oriented. the beach is nice, and high rise hotels are particularly nice. the evenings are beautiful and so relaxing. also, walking up ocean boulevard is a blast (it's right by the sea), with all the shopping and other activities. myrtle beach is well worth the trip, went 3 times last summer. you never run out of stuff to do there!!
References :
My honest opinion after visiting there on several occasions, its an excellent vacation spot for singles but i don't find it to be the most family friendly place unless you go during a certain time they do have some good activities there to entertain families of adults and children alike, such as the small amusement park located on the strip, but what ever you do don't take a family there during spring break or any of the biker weeks held there, which takes place around the very beginning pf summer or tail end of spring, its just simply too much rowdiness going on too much of an adult environment during those particular events, so i suggest carefully choosing a good time to take your family and reviewing when and what events are going on.
References :
I thought it was very Honky Tonk - run down, carnival atmosphere - not very nice. Northern Myrtle Beach however is much nicer - so head out of the city and you'll find nice beaches and decent hotels.
References :
Myrtle Beach is one of my favorite places to vacation. There is so much more to MB than just the beach. Broadway at the Beach has lots of shopping and great restaurants. I would also recommend going to North MB to Barefoot Landing (more restaurants and entertainment ((Hard Rock Cafe))).

Like any other East coast beach, there is also a lot of mini-golf and ice cream stands for the family.
References :
http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/

I was there for a day in 1996. I didn't particularly like it. I didn't think it was that pretty, it was hot and muggy, and there was too much development along the coast. However, there's a really beautiful botanical garden south of the city.I forget the name of it, though.
References :
the beaches are nice but the area has every major chain restaurant around plus some strip clubs near the beach areas. with the exception of the golf, there is nothing different about these area except that it is overated.
References :
Has anyone vacation in Myrtle Beach before. If so how would your rate it.?
I have a family with 2 daughters. 12 and 13. We are looking to vacation in Myrtle Beach. Never been there before. Do you think this would be a good family vacation. We do not golf. But love Beaches.
