What determines the different hole yardage on a golf course?

What is the shortest and max distance for a par 3? par 4? par 5? and how many of each is on a golf course?

    It depends on the designer of the course for the yardages.

    Par 72 courses usually consist of 4 par 5s, and it depends on the designer how many of the others are included.
    Par 70 courses usually consist of 2 par 5s w/ a different number for the others.

    The amount of land availble to the course and the course designer. Normally a18 hole course will have a minimum of 2 Par 3’s and 2 par 5’s per Nine holes. Yardage would correspond accordingly. There are no absolute minimums and maximums though there are recognized guidelines for par 3’s 4’s and 5’s.
