Basic Rules of Golf – 7 Must-Know Golf Tips For Beginners

Before you head out and play your next game, it is important to make sure you know the important basic rules of golf. It wouldn’t be a pretty sight if you had more experienced players lecturing you about the basic rules of golf for half of the game. So here in this article, I will show you the most important basic rules of golf that you should be aware of.

Basic Rules of Golf #1: As with every sport, it’s always important to have good etiquette. They’re unwritten, but you should always remember to act nicely to other players.

This means that if someone is about to swing their golf club, you shouldn’t distract them by talking or making noises. Also, be sure to move along with the game without delaying it too much; you wouldn’t want people to wait around just for you to play.

Basic Rules of Golf #2: Be sure that when you receive your score card, you read the rules carefully. Also, be sure that you designate which ball brand you’re using so that everyone can tell who has what ball. If you and another golfer are using the same brand, then you can put some sort of mark on the ball so that you can tell the difference.

Basic Rules of Golf #3: Most of the time, courses that you play on will have a 14 club limit. If you want to play with more, then everyone will have to agree to increase the limit. When you’re playing with people you don’t normally play with, just stick to 14 clubs.

Basic Rules of Golf #4: Remember that your ball must be behind the tee marker when you’re teeing off. Usually these tee markers will have different colors, which will indicate the different handicaps.

Basic Rules of Golf #5: Note that your balls must be played as lay lie. So that means that if you find your ball is hit into a bad area, you’ll have to stick with it and play from that spot. It’s against the rules to touch your ball and move it to get it out. Most players are strict, so don’t touch the ball!

Basic Rules of Golf #6: You will incur a 1-stroke penalty if you hit your ball out of bounds. You will then have to hit another ball instead. Also, if you hit your ball into the water, you will again have a 1-stroke penalty.

Basic Rules of Golf #7: When you’re at the green, always avoid walking through another player’s line of putt from their ball to the hole. The reason is that you may leave foot prints, and these foot prints can leave little divots that make the surface uneven for putting.
