Golf Slicing Tips – What Impact Does the Golf Swing Plane Have?

As you may or may not be aware, Golf Slicing is a huge issue for many Golfers out there trying to enjoy this wonderful game. In fact, over 80% of Golfers suffer or have suffered from the dreaded Golf Slicing problem. There are several other areas that can influence Golf Slicing, however in this article I will be discussing what the Golf Swing Plane is and how it can influence a golf slice.

What is the Golf Swing Plane and how does it affect Golf Slicing?

The Golf Swing Plane describes the angle and path that the Golf Club takes throughout the process of the entire Golf Swing. The angle is determined by the Path, which will either be flat, medium or upright and will be directed either inside the line, down the line or outside the line. If you want to eliminate stop a Golf Slice and play more consistent Golf then you are looking to achieve a Golf Swing Plane that is Medium (this will depend on the club you are using!), with a down the line direction.

As I mentioned, it does of course depend on the Golf Club you are using, the Driver is much longer than say the 9 iron, so will be further away from your body and therefore will require a flatter Golf Swing Path. This is where most average Golfers will go wrong and will consequently suffer from Golf Slicing. They will keep the same Swing path for the Driver as they would for the 9 Iron, therefore having a swing path that is too upright, which will encourage an outside the line direction, which in turn promotes Golf Slicing, as you will be cutting across the ball with an open clubface.

A good way to visualize the Golf Swing Plane is to take a piece of String and tie a weight to the end of it. Now take the other end of the string with your right hand and stretch you arm out directly in front of you (so you don’t knock yourself out!), cock your hand to 45% and start swinging the weight, this should produce a perfect Swing Plane around your hand, which would have a medium path and be down the line.

If you now decrease the angel of your hand to say 30% the Golf Swing Plane will be more upright, and now turn your hand a little to the left and you have created an upright and outside the line swing path, which encourages a Golf Slice.
