Mental Golf Tips – How to Improve Your Game Effortlessly

The right mental golf tips can improve your game almost effortlessly. You see, here’s the deal. Believe it or not, you already know how to play golf. Your body can already do all of the movements necessary to a great game of golf. It could before you even picked up a club for the first time. So, what’s hanging you up mentally when you try to play golf? All you really need to do is to relax and let your body and mind take over.

Mental Golf Tips: Getting In Touch With Your Inner Tiger Woods

The problem with most golfers is they over analyze and over think golf. I’m dead serious when I say that your body already knows how to master this game. Think about it like this. Have you ever chopped wood? How about hammered a nail? Did you need a coach or a DVD to tell you how to swing a hammer when you picked it up. But for some reason you feel like you need all of this stuff when you swing a golf club.

Granted, swinging a golf club and hitting the ball straight is a little more difficult than hammering a nail. (Not much though.) But still my point is the actual motion is pretty much the same, and you didn’t have to “learn” how to swing a hammer…And! you don’t get nervous when you hammer a nail. (Or at least, I hope you don’t.)

If you’re like most golfers, you’re allowing yourself to be nervous about nothing. So, that’s mental golf tip one. Just think of this like hammering a nail.

Mental Golf Tips: Get Aligned

For our next mental golf tip, let me ask you this. If you always hit a nice straight shot, and if you always selected the right club and hit the ball the right distance, would you be so nervous about golf? Probably not. Hitting the ball straight is a matter of alignment. You want to be able to draw a line through your heels and have that line point straight toward the green. You want your shoulders lined up over your hips. You want the arc of your swing to follow this same line. Then you want the face of the club to be at right angles to this line. Get all of this “straight” and you’ll not have problems with your swing.

Metal Golf Tips: Have Fun

Part of the problem with golf is we get so distracted with all the stuff you read about how to swing, chip, pitch, putt, etc ad nauseum, and when we actually swing our bodies get tied up in knots. What to do about all of this? Let it go! One of the best mental golf tips I can give you is to quit caring as much. Quit the internal pressure and self-talk.

How? One way is to get out on the course and just play for fun. Just hit the ball any old way you want. Don’t worry about how you look or how well you play. (Go to a course where no one knows you. Or do what a friend of mine does, play at night with a luminescent ball. Whatever it takes, just allow yourself the freedom to screw up.)
